A Shop on Facebook and Instagram puts your products in front of people where they already spend their time. Customers browse your products in the app, tap Buy and pay through your store's own checkout, so every sale lands in Minicart like any other order. Your products stay up to date in the Shop on their own, so there's nothing to keep in sync by hand.
Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, runs the Shop. You set it up in Meta Commerce Manager, using a page in Minicart that holds the 2 links Meta asks for.
Ask Sloane
Say "Sloane, set up my Facebook and Instagram Shop" and she will open the setup page for you. You can also find it at Settings > Facebook & Instagram Shop in the left sidebar.
Before you start
Your store needs to be able to take payment, so set up payments first if you haven't already.
You need a business portfolio with Meta, which is what Commerce Manager runs under. Meta explains how to create one and how to set up a shop on Facebook and Instagram. Meta reviews every Shop against its own eligibility rules before it goes live. Those rules are Meta's to set.
Which products appear in your Shop
Minicart sends every product that a customer can buy straight from the Shop:
Public products only. Draft products stay out.
Physical products only. Meta doesn't allow digital products in a Shop, so anything with Digital product switched on stays out.
Products without required personalization. A customer coming from Facebook or Instagram has nowhere to type personalization text, so a product with Required switched on under Personalization stays out.
Products with at least one photo. Meta needs an image for every item, so a product without one stays out.
Each option of a product, like a size or a color, shows up as its own choice in the Shop. A product with a Compare at price shows as on sale. A product that is Sold out shows as out of stock.
Set up your Shop in Commerce Manager
Open Settings > Facebook & Instagram Shop in Minicart and keep it next to Commerce Manager. The page has the 2 links Meta asks for, in the order it asks for them. Meta changes its screens from time to time, so the names below may read slightly differently when you get there.
1. Data feed
This is how Meta gets your products.
In Commerce Manager, go to Catalog > Data sources and select Add.
Choose Data file, then Enter a URL.
Paste the Data feed link from Minicart and set the schedule to hourly.
Meta then fetches your products on that schedule, so a new product, a price change or an item selling out shows up in your Shop on its own.
2. Checkout URL
This is where customers go when they tap Buy.
In Commerce Manager, go to Settings > Shop details and select Edit on Checkout URL.
Paste the Checkout URL from Minicart.
Meta asks you to build and test it with a couple of your products. Your customer lands in your store's checkout with those products already in their cart.
Select Submit. This step matters: your checkout URL doesn't take effect until you submit it.
What your customers see
A customer who taps Buy lands in your store's checkout with the products they chose already in their cart. They pay the same way as any other customer. If a discount code came with them from Meta, it's applied for them. If something they picked is no longer available or the code isn't valid, your store tells them before they pay.
The order then shows up in Orders > Orders in the left sidebar like any other sale.
Still stuck
If Meta won't accept your data feed or checkout URL, reach out through Contact support in the left sidebar and we'll take a look with you.
